Okinawa milk tea is a type of milk tea that draws influence from the Okinawa region of Japan. Okinawa milk tea is a tasty blend of black tea, milk, and sweetener. Okinawa milk tea gets its unique taste from the Okinawa brown sugar that’s used to sweeten the tea.
First though, let’s talk about milk tea. Milk tea has been a common staple in many countries, and if you ask for ‘tea’ pretty much anywhere in Asia and many other countries it’ll come served with milk. Milk tea is simply what it sounds like- tea with milk added. This combination creates a smoothness and slight sweetness to normal bitter teas such as black tea. Milk tea can be made into anything, such as bubble tea or masala chai tea.
The people of Okinawa are widely known to be the healthiest and leanest people in the world. According to a recent study, scientists now believe the good health of the Okinawan people may be directly related to their high consumption of tea. The average Okinawan drinks up to two cups of Okinawan tea daily. (Not that I drink the Okinawan Milk tea, but I do drink lots more than two cups of tea a day). Unlike regular black and green teas, the Okinawan tea is very rich in health promoting and powerful nutrients including epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), antioxidants, and catechins.
Okinawa milk tea is basically made with roasted brown sugar instead of the regular syrup. This gives it a unique flavor as it helps to add a layer of complexity to this traditional drink. It has an appropriate balance of tea flavor and sweetness, no wonder it is a favorite of many milk lovers. The Okinawan milk tea is milky, yet you can still taste its tea flavor. It also has a rich and deep sugarcane taste.
