Tea, Stress and the Pandemic

The outbreak of COVID-19 and the overwhelming ramifications it has brought with it has proven to be stressful for us all. The unknown future, the fear and the anxiety has triggered strong and intense emotions and coping with this stress has been a monumental challenge.

Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations…

In the past weeks we have seen and read the literally hundreds of creative ways people are handing the stress. Whether is it binge watching Netflix, exercising on YouTube or video chatting with friends – we all have and continue to find ways to keep us “house bound bunnies” from going crazy!!!!  For me it’s been 1,000-piece tea puzzles, reading, reading, reading, and researching future classes I plan to teach and yes, I must admit watching a lot more tv. And of course, drinking tea! I’m also in the process of reorganizing my over 300 different teas.

But let’s talk about why you should be drinking more tea…

Tea has an amino acid that is shown to reduce stress…

This amino acid is called theanine. There are numerous studies showing that people who take theanine supplements consistently have lower levels of stress. And when you combine theanine with caffeine, it helps to boost your brain activity as well as your mood.
