International Lefthanders Day

the cup of knowledge

Did you know…

That International Left Hander’s Day is observed annually on August 13 to celebrate the uniqueness and differences of the left hander’s. That’s today!

August 13th is a chance to tell your family and friends how proud you are of being left-handed and raise awareness of the everyday issues that lefties face as we live in a world designed for right-hander’s. Lefties make up only about 10 percent of the population, but studies find that individuals who are left-handed score higher when it comes to creativity, imagination, daydreaming and intuition. They’re also better at rhythm and visualization. While the reason is unclear, some believe it’s due to left-handed people having to strengthen both sides of the brain to succeed in a right-handed world. Because many lefties are better at using their non-dominant hand, it’s less difficult for them to recover from a stroke that damages one part of their brain.

So… if you are left-handed- here’s a teacup for you!  I found it on eBay and it’s ONLY $35.00. And it is lovely!

left cup

“Left-handed Nippon teacup, green with pink hand painted flowers. 2 flowers on 1 side, and 1 on the other. “Nippon hand painted” stamped on teacup, saucer stamped JK on the bottom – does not say Nippon. The teacup and saucer may not be a matched set, but they look good together. Gold color around rim of cup, handle and rim of saucer.”

All of this came about because my grandson’s day care today believe it or not celebrated International Left Hander’s Day by learning this song…

Here’s my right hand.

Hold it up high.

Here’s my left hand to touch the sky.

Right hand.

Left hand.

Roll them around.

Left hand. Left hand.

Do you know a left handed tea drinker who would love that tea cup?
